Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Bella's Bracelet

[Jacob] turned the bag upside down and shook something silver into my hand. Metal links clinked quietly against each other.

“I didn’t make the bracelet,” he admitted. “Just the charm.”

Fastened to one of the links of the silver bracelet was a tiny wooden carving. I held it between my fingers to look at it closer. It was amazing the amount of detail involved in the little figurine — the miniature wolf was utterly realistic. It was even carved out of some red-brown wood that matched the color of his skin. –Bella Swan, Eclipse, page 374

Bella's Bracelet
Pattern by Cat and pieced by Jerri Lynn as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Cat:
I occasionally dabble in a little jewelry making and had made myself a bracelet based on the one that Jacob gave Bella with the wolf charm and then Edward added his diamond heart. I thought if I could make a real one, then I could also make a quilt block too! So I sat down and came up with this design.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Graduation

Edward kissed me quickly, sighed, and went to go stand with the C's. . .

I walked down the line to take my place behind Jessica, mildly curious as to why she was suddenly so friendly. . .

Jess was babbling before I was in earshot.

". . . so amazing. I mean, it seems like we just met, and now we're graduating together," she gushed. "Can you believe it's over? I feel like screaming!" . . .

She droned on and on, and I was sure the sudden return of our friendship was due to graduation nostalgia. . . I paid attention as well as I could while I shrugged into my robe. And I found that I was glad that things could end on a good note with Jessica.

Because it was an ending, no matter what Eric, the valedictorian, had to say about commencement meaning "beginning. . ."
It went so quickly. . .

I watched as Alice, suddenly appearing, danced across the stage. . . Edward followed behind. . . Only the two of them could carry off the hideous yellow and still look the way they did. . .

Mr. Greene said something I didn't hear, and everyone around me shouted and screamed. Yellow hats rained down.
–Bella Swan, Eclipse, pages 353-355

Graduation from Forks High
Pattern by Linda Causee and pieced by Angie as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Angie:
I used the pattern from my favorite 'paper piecing bible' 365 Foundation Quilt Blocks. Since I make most of my pictorial quilt blocks out of batik . . . these seemed like natural colors for a diploma. I had this grand idea of adding a gold thread tassel but the reality of that plan was disappointing so I nixed it. The words 'Forks High' are quilted in the background.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: I Am Switzerland

I am a neutral country. I am Switzerland. I refuse to be affected by territorial disputes between mythical creatures.
–Bella Swan, Eclipse, page 143

I Am Switzerland
Pattern by Cat and pieced by Iris; embroidered quote by Jerri Lynn for our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Iris:
There's something about this block that I really love. It's simple, but the combination of the sparkliness of the the Fairy Frost, the different textures, and the embroidery really appeal to me. I really loved putting this block together for such a special quilt.

From Cat:
I have been to Switzerland in the past as I have friends there and I noticed that a lot of the towns displayed shields for the country and region more so than flags, so to represent Bella’s “I am Switzerland” stance I created a Swiss Shield pattern. Although I hadn't read Breaking Dawn yet when I designed it, it was a good choice as Bella’s special gift as a vampire was to shield her loved ones, so this is a perfect representation for Bella.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Jacob

How do you know me so well, Jacob? Sometimes it’s like you can read my mind. –Bella Swan, New Moon, page 321

Jacob
Designed and pieced by Colleen as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Colleen:
I made the Wolf Paw with Conversation Hearts block to represent the strengthening of Jacob and Bella's friendship in New Moon. I used a winter forest fabric for the background and a reddish brown for the wolf paw which I hand appliqued. I also added two conversation hearts from a perfect fabric that Iris found. This was a New Moon block but I foreshadowed Eclipse with my selection of hearts ("Hot Lips" and "Kiss Me").

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Clock Tower at Volterra

A deep, booming chime echoed through the square. It throbbed in the stones under my feet. . . . I started screaming as I ran.

“Edward!” I screamed, knowing it was useless. The crowd was too loud, and my voice was breathless with exertion. But I couldn't stop screaming.

The clock tolled again.

. . . “Edward, no!” I screamed, but my voice was lost in the roar of the chime.

. . . The clock tolled, and he took a large stride toward the light.

“No!” I screamed. “Edward, look at me!”

He wasn't listening. He smiled very slightly. He raised his foot to take the step that would put him directly in the path of the sun.
–Bella Swan, New Moon, page 449–451

The Clock Tower at Volterra
Designed by Iris and adapted and pieced by Joyce as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Joyce:
I started with Iris’ Clock Tower block from New Moon, then watched the DVD a number of times. I decided to make this block similar to hers, but closer. I used the crackle white and brown fabric for the building. The base of the fountain is also the crackle fabric. , I used a blue striated with white fabric to fill the fountain, which looked like water to me. I originally did the fountain statue in the same crackle fabric, but it blended too much with the building, so I remade it in a dark red. I covered it with a sparkly organdy ribbon to make it look like water was falling from the fountain. I used a brighter red for the flags all over the building, and the black we used for most of the quilt in the windows to give some depth. The clock itself is white fabric, and I embroidered the hands so it was getting close to noon. I used a satin stitch to define edges and add some detail. All we need now is for Edward to appear in the doorway!

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Grand Theft Auto

A bright yellow Porsche screamed to a stop a few feet in front of where I paced, the word TURBO scrawled in silver cursive across its back. Everyone beside me on the crowded airport sidewalk stared.

“Hurry, Bella!” Alice shouted impatiently through the open passenger window.

I ran to the door and threw myself in, feeling as though I might as well be wearing a black stocking over my head.

“Sheesh, Alice,” I complained. “Could you pick a more conspicuous car to steal?”

The interior was black leather, and the windows were tinted dark. It felt safer inside, like nighttime.

Alice was already weaving, too fast, through the thick airport traffic—sliding through tiny spaces between the cars as I cringed and fumbled for my seat belt.

“The important question,” she corrected, “is whether I could have stolen a faster car, and I don't think so. I got lucky.”

“I'm sure that will be very comforting at the roadblock.”

She trilled a laugh. “Trust me, Bella. If anyone sets up a roadblock, it will be behind us.” She hit the gas then, as if to prove her point. –Bella Swan and Alice Cullen, New Moon, page 439–440

Alice's Porsche

From Cat
I designed this block previously for another Twilight Quilt and still love it so used it again for this one. I'm an engineer and asked a lot of my motor-head male colleagues what they thought of the design before going ahead with it. They all approved .

I found trying to get the right fabrics for this one was tricky enough, but trying to find the right buttons was also a challenge. In the end I used some buttons from my grandmother's old button tin for the wheels and I needed some help for the headlight buttons. And of course I had to use Fairy Frost somewhere in this block, because we all know that vampires sparkle!

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Cliff Diving

I smiled and raised my arms straight out, as if I were going to dive, lifting my face into the rain. But it was too ingrained from years of swimming at the public pool—feet first, first time. I leaned forward, crouching to get more spring . . .

And I flung myself off the cliff.

I screamed as I dropped through the open air like a meteor, but it was a scream of exhilaration and not fear. The wind resisted, trying vainly to fight the unconquerable gravity, pushing against me and twirling me in spirals like a rocket crashing to earth.
–Bella Swan, New Moon, page 359

Cliff Diving
Designed by Angie, adapted and pieced by Joyce as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Joyce:
Angie’s Cliff Diving Block on the New Moon Quilt was beautiful, so I used her pattern. To make the block a bit different for this quilt, I flipped it left to right. The beach comes to the start of the cliffs with some of the bushes showing on the lower cliff, which is dark gray to contrast with the beach. Bella has just jumped from the upper cliff, which is a lighter gray stone material. The bushes and forest are a fabric with trees, which I also used in the arm wrestling block. The darkened sky is my favorite tie-dyed material, which I use often. The water is a variegated blue with sparkles in it. As in Angie’s block, Victoria is floating in the distance.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Months Passing

It will be as if I'd never existed, he'd promised me.

I felt the smooth wooden floor beneath my knees, and then the palms of my hands, and then it was pressed against the skin of my cheek. I hoped that I was fainting, but to my disappointment, I didn't lose consciousness. The waves of pain that had only lapped at me before now reared high up and washed over my head, pulling me under.

I did not resurface.
–Bella Swan, New Moon, page 84

Months Passing Without Notice
Designed and pieced by Joyce as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Joyce:
The months passing was one of the most heart wrenching parts of the books for me. If you've read the New Moon write-ups, this will be a repeat. For this quilt, I tried to replicate what I had made for the New Moon quilt. The months fit together and flip up to reveal the next month. If you look closely, hopefully you will see the trees are designed to symbolize hands reaching toward each other, but just not able to connect. I used many of the same fabrics for these blocks as for the New Moon quilt. The trees are various fabrics, which resemble bark. The skies are tie-dyed blue. The ground varies with each month as the seasons changed. To finish the blocks, I embroidered the name of each month on the block.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Lion and Lamb

“Isabella.” He pronounced my full name carefully, then playfully ruffled my hair with his free hand. A shock ran through my body at his casual touch. “Bella, I couldn’t live with myself if I ever hurt you. You don’t know how it’s tortured me.” He looked down, ashamed again. “The thought of you, still, white, cold . . . to never see you blush scarlet again, to never see that flash of intuition in your eyes when you see through my pretenses . . . it would be unendurable.” He lifted his glorious, agonized eyes to mine. “You are the most important thing to me now. The most important thing to me ever.”

My head was spinning at the rapid change in direction our conversation had taken. From the cheerful topic of my impending demise, we were suddenly declaring ourselves. He waited, and even though I looked down to study our hands between us, I knew his golden eyes were on me.

“You already know how I feel, of course,” I finally said. “I’m here . . . which, roughly translated, means I would rather die than stay away from you.” I frowned. “I’m an idiot.”

“You are an idiot,” he agreed with a laugh. Our eyes met, and I laughed too. We laughed together at the idiocy and sheer impossibility of such a moment.

“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb . . . ,” he murmured. I looked away, hiding my eyes as I thrilled to the word.

“What a stupid lamb,” I sighed.

“What a sick, masochistic lion.”

Lion and Lamb
Roaring Lion pattern by Linda Hibbert and pieced by Iris; Lamb pattern by Four Twin Sisters and pieced by Nicole as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Iris:
This lion is the same pattern that was used for the Stephenie Meyer quilt in 2009. I'd admired it since I first saw it and was very excited to give it a try. Originally I intended to use this in my personal Twilight quilt, but when the call for another charity quilt came, I felt it fitting to donate the lion to this cause. Having small children myself, any cause that benefits children is close to my heart.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: The Meadow

I reached the edge of the pool of light and stepped through the last fringe of ferns into the loveliest place I had ever seen. The meadow was small, perfectly round, and filled with wildflowers — violet, yellow and soft white. Somewhere nearby, I could hear the bubbling music of a stream. The sun was directly overhead, filling the circle with a haze of buttery sunshine. I walked slowly, awestruck, through the soft grass, swaying flowers, and warm, gilded air. –Bella Swan, Twilight, page 259

The Meadow
Pattern designed by Cat and pieced by Jerri Lynn as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Jerri Lynn:
I was so happy to do this block, as it is one of my favorite scenes from all of the books combined! The beautiful design is Cat's, but I chose my own fabrics. I love the way that Cat has designed this scene, with Edward and Bella gazing at one another. This is the perfect image for the last movie, as it brings the focus of the books, the love between Edward and Bella, right to the surface.

From Cat:
I found that this scene in the book and also the movie to be quite calming. I have the characters off centre in the corner of the block to emphasize the vast openness of the meadow and to demonstrate the feeling that they could be alone with just the two of them there as if the rest of the world doesn't matter. That is the feeling I had when I read this scene in the book and I tried to capture that in the block pattern too.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: La Push First Beach

I’d been to the beaches around La Push many times during my Forks summers with Charlie, so the mile-long crescent of First Beach was familiar to me. It was still breathtaking. The water was dark gray, even in the sunlight, white-capped and heaving to the gray, rocky shore. Islands rose out of the steel harbor waters with sheer cliff sides, reaching to uneven summits, and crowned with austere, soaring firs. The beach had only a thin border of actual sand at the water’s edge, after which it grew into millions of large, smooth stones that looked uniformly gray from a distance, but close up were every shade a stone could be: terra-cotta, sea green, lavender, blue gray, dull gold. The tide line was strewn with huge driftwood trees, bleached bone white in the salt waves, some piled together against the edge of the forest fringe, some lying solitary, just out of reach of the waves. –Bella Swan, Twilight, page 114–115

La Push: First Beach
Pattern designed by Cat and pieced by Jerri Lynn for our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Jerri Lynn:
What I love about this block is that it gives you an overall picture of what it might be like to stand on the beach of La Push, looking at the trees, the shore, and the mountains in the distance. I see this as a beautiful sunny day there, one of the rare ones where the vampires definitely need to stay inside!

From Cat:
This was the first Twilight themed block that I designed and I still love it. I wanted to capture the rugged coastline and cliffs that surround the bay and the forest that edges towards it. I also wanted a block that captured all of this without being overly complicated. I was happy with the result and with the use of the right fabrics you can really develop the features.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Vegetarian Vampire Eyes

I watched as his golden eyes grew perceptibly darker day by day. –Bella Swan, Twilight, page 70

Vegetarian Vampire Eyes
Pattern designed by Cat & pieced by Nicole as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Nicole:
I love the vampire eyes, and Cat had created a paper piecing pattern for it, which I LOVE. So, I went with the “veggie” vamp eyes. It has a nice topaz-y color, and I used both the white glittery fabric for around the eye and the gold glittery fabric for the flesh of the vampire.

From Cat:
This pattern was done with the “vegetarian” vampire in mind and their topaz coloured eyes, but it works equally well in red. The pattern is a lot easier than it looks as it done without the need to join multiple pieces of paper, but it is still quite striking as the eye looks out at you.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Bella's Truck

The thing, I thought to myself… it had possibilities — as a nickname, at the very least. –Bella Swan, Twilight, page 7

Bella's Truck
Designed and pieced by Nicole as part of our Give-to-Win Twilight Saga Charity Quilt.

From Nicole:
I wanted to make sure that Bella’s truck was included in this quilt. I knew that trying to paper piece it would be a trick in itself. So I went with appliqué. I found the “right” truck; Bella in the book is given a ‘50s Chevy, but the movie had a ‘60s Chevy. They are very different. Since we were going with our favorite scenes from the books, I wanted the book truck. With Forks being full of trees, I wanted the background fabric to have trees. She had a red truck, so obviously I had to use a red fabric. I chose one that looked more “rusted” but it was actually shimmery! Then I just layered them together and satin stitched around the pieces. Different sizes to outline the truck.

Twilight Saga Charity Quilt: Give to Win

When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it’s not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end. –Bella Swan, Twilight, page 1

In January of 2009, a group of TwilightMOMS began discussing and working on Twilight themed quilts. By March of 2009, The Twilight Quilters Coven was officially formed and we began plans for a group quilt for Stephenie Meyer. Since then, we've changed our name to Twi-Quilters, have made seven group quilts, continued work on our individual quilts and formed life-long friendships. Three of our group quilts have been auctioned or "raffled" off and all the proceeds given to charity. We are proud to show our eighth quilt and to give you an opportunity to win it, all for charity, of course.

Our group members have donated all the fabrics and supplies as well as our time, to create this beautiful quilt, which includes our favorite scenes from all four of the Twilight Saga books. And we're going to give it away to one lucky fan! For every $5 donation from you, which will be donated directly to George Mark Children's House, you’ll get one chance to win the quilt. We hope you'll give generously to this worthy cause. Donations will be accepted through March 9, 2013 and the winner will be announced by March 15th.

Over the next few weeks, we'll give you a close-up look at each of the blocks in this one-of-a-kind quilt, so make sure to check back often!
